And when they join their new clubs, star players will often make their homes in the best neighbourhoods, buying mansions and penthouses kitted out to their personal tastes.
The results are varied from the garish to the classic; from ostentatious shows of phenomenal wealth to understated beauty designed by top architects.
Here MailOnline presents nine homes which have been lived in by Premier League footballers and managers, but can you guess who the owners are? Answers at the bottom of the article.
Property No 1 - This Surrey mansion was bought for £4.35m in December 2014. The seven-bedroom house used to be owned by a professional golfer before falling into the hands of a current Premier League star who earns £170,000 a week
